Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance and a city that breathes art in every corner. In the heart of
Tuscany, Florence stands as a testament to the brilliance of human creativity. Join us as we embark
on a cultural odyssey through this artistic haven, exploring its world-renowned museums, awe-
inspiring galleries, and the very essence of Renaissance artistry.
Florence is an hour drive from Lucca but I
would recommend taking the train. It is a direct line and will bring you right in the city centre of Florence, without any
parking problems. From there it is a ten minute walk to the most popular destinations. Only the Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens will take you a bit longer, about thirty minutes.
The Uffizi Gallery, a treasure trove of artistic wonders. Walking through its halls feels like stepping
back in time. The gaze of Botticelli's Venus and the powerful stance of Michelangelo's David leave us
in awe. Each painting, sculpture, and artifact tells a story, a narrative of human imagination and skill.
The Uffizi Gallery is not just a museum; it's a journey through the evolution of art.

The Accademia Gallery, home to one of the most iconic sculptures in the world: Michelangelo's
David. Standing beneath this masterpiece, we marvel at the precision and artistry that carved life out
of stone. The gallery also houses Michelangelo's unfinished sculptures, offering a rare insight into the
artist's creative process. It's a place where genius comes alive, inspiring all who gaze upon it.

vibrant masterpieces, every room tells a tale of Renaissance opulence.
Stepping into the tranquil
Boboli Gardens, we find solace among sculptures, fountains, and meticulously manicured greenery, a

Safe the best for last. I like the most the Palazzo Strozzi, a big palazzo once owned by the powerful
Strozzi family now hosting numerous of modern artists over the years. Every exhibition is one on his
own, so check the website for the lastest details. Here you can also buy the tickets.
While Florence is steeped in Renaissance art, its streets also tell a tale of contemporary creativity.
If you have time left, wander through Oltrarno, Florence's hip neighborhood, adorned with vibrant murals and street
art. Talented local artists use walls as their canvas, blending modern themes with the city's rich
heritage.
Before heading back to Lucca we always try to visit Mercato Centrale to get some delicious take-a-way. So we don't have to cook when back in Lucca. See one of my other blogs about the Mercato Centrale, to find out why.
