One of the many delights of Lucca is its versatility. While the city itself offers a plethora of

Another escapade that has captured our hearts is the sun-kissed coastline of Viareggio and Forte dei
Marmi. Here's how we turn a regular day into a beachfront paradise.
Given the Italian penchant for beaches, summer traffic can turn a simple drive into a cumbersome
ordeal. That's why we opt for the stress-free solution: the train. A quick 15-minute ride from Lucca to
Viareggio transports us right into the heart of Viareggio. From there, it's merely a leisurely 10-minute
stroll to the beach, allowing us to skip the parking hassle and dive straight into the fun.
Tip: going by car be very early or leave at Lucca around 15.00 after lunch. Then the scenic route to
the beach becomes a less stressing adventure. And even parking is easier since the people who had
the morning shift will leave after lunch.
For those seeking a luxurious beach experience, the beach clubs in Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi
beckon. Armed with our swimsuits, we relish in a day of relaxation. Whether it's swimming in the
refreshing sea or lounging by the pool, the beach clubs provide a perfect blend of comfort and
indulgence.
Post-soaking bliss, a convenient shower prepares us for the evening ahead. At walking
distance from the station are Bagno Irene, Narcisa or Roma which has a good pool.
If the beach clubs are not your style, fear not. There is a clean public beach near the small port, close
to Bagno Dori. Bagno Dori is one of the oldest beachclubs in Viareggio. Around the port there are
pleny of options to eat (seafood) for lunch of dinner.
An other option is Marina Torre del Lago. Which offers the liberating expanse of Spiaggia Libera.
Arriving after the initial rush around 4 PM, we usually find ample parking and an uncrowded beach.
The sands are pristine. We often park near Bagni Fortunato Beach, From there you have easy access
to the free beach. Plus, a nearby snack bar caters to our cravings, saving us from lugging a cooler.
After a day of sun-soaked adventures, the evening beckons with promises of culinary delights.
Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi boast an array of seafood restaurants, offering the freshest catches of
the day.
Alternatively, if the charm of Lucca is calling you back, the city's historic center hosts a
multitude of restaurants catering to every palate. Whichever locale we choose, the day culminates in
a feast of flavors, a perfect ending to our coastal day trip.
