Outdoor adventures
If you're seeking a unique camping experience in Italy, the region around Lucca offers a variety of options, although they may not be as abundant as in France. In the last years, I discovered a handful of campgrounds, with two of them nestled between Lucca and Florence. Allow me to share my camping journey with you, starting with Barco Reale.
Location: Between Lucca and Florence
Barco Reale I have been a few times myself, visiting friends during summer holiday. The breathtaking panoramic views from the
poolside are awesome. The campground is clean and taken care of. If you enjoy the company of fellow Dutch, Belgium and German travelers, this is the place to be. Including a charger for electric cars and kids entertainment in the evening.
Location: Near Montecatini
Another campground I visited with our children was Camping Belsito, situated near Montecatini. It offers two pools and
boasts beautiful vistas while maintaining a sense of order and organization. Some campsites even with own private bathrooms. And two big pools, one with jacuzzi. And very good public BBQ's. For some, this might be
perfect, but personally, I lean towards a more off-the-beaten-path experience.
For those who prefer a less structured and more authentic Italian camping experience, I'd suggest exploring Garfagnana, the province next to Lucca. This region is a hidden gem for nature enthusiasts, offering activities like hiking, river swimming, and canyoning.
Location: Antelminelli
In the heart of Garfagnana, you'll find Camping Pian d'Amora, a truly natural haven. It immerses you in the authentic essence of Italy. The
pristine natural surroundings are perfect for those who appreciate a back-to-basics camping
experience. Surrounded by the most beautiful nature. The view from the pool on the mountains is stunning. And they also have "safari tents" for those who want a bit more luxery.
Location: Camporgiana
If you're traveling with children, don't miss out on Rancone Lodges. With its fantastic river views,
swimming pool, and an abundance of animals, it's a family-friendly paradise. Make sure to check out
their Instagram for a sneak peek at the incredible scenery, the animals and the riverbed races during summer – a fun-filled
experience you won't want to miss.
In conclusion, camping around Lucca offers a diverse range of options, from the well-organized to the
authentically rustic. Whether you seek stunning vistas, adventure activities, or a family-friendly
atmosphere, this region has something to offer every camping enthusiast.
Be aware that summer is busy in Italy, so book upfront to be sure you have the best camping spot. So, make your reservation, pack your bags and
embark on an unforgettable camping journey in the beautiful surroundings of Lucca.
