Hiking Trails
Nestled just 40 minutes away from the enchanting town of Lucca, Orridio di Bottri awaits, a geological wonder that has been shaped over millennia by the relentless movements beneath the Earth's surface. On a sun-kissed September day, I embarked on an adventure to explore this breathtaking canyon, a testament to the raw forces of nature.
As I arrived at Orridio di Bottri, the anticipation of what lay ahead filled the air. Towering rock formations, etched by countless years of erosion. It was as if I had stepped into a natural sculpture garden, a testament to the artistic hand of Mother Earth herself.
For those who crave adventure and are willing to hike, scramble over rocks, and don't mind getting their feet wet, Orridio di Bottri is the perfect destination. The journey through the canyon takes approximately three hours round trip, and it's an exhilarating experience for adventure seekers. There is a river in the canyon and at the end some waterfalls where you can have a swim. Beware the water is freezing cold!
As you progress through the canyon, crystal-clear streams wind their way through the rocky terrain, forming serene pools and cascading waterfalls. The play of sunlight on the water's surface and rocks adds an enchanting touch to the surroundings, making it a photographer's paradise.
The tranquility of Orridio di Bottri offers respite from the chaos of daily life, allowing you to
reconnect with the untamed beauty of nature. But be prepared
for some wet feet as part of the journey involves wading through water. Bring along
your swimwear and sturdy footwear to fully enjoy this adventure.
Access to the park is just 3 euros per person, and you'll be
provided with a helmet for added safety. And don't forget about lunch! Right at the
park's entrance, you'll find a delightful trattoria, "Il nido dell Aquila” offering a delicious culinary
experience. Good food for a better price. Another option is to drive to Tereglio there is trattoria Da
Elena, also highly recommended. Delicious homemade pastas. The village is an
hidden gem and the drive to it a roadtrip with stunning views.
You can do Orridio di Bottri on your own, there are no organized tours. But it is also possible to book several other organized outdoor activites. So, explore and see if you are in for some adventure! Canyoing, riverswim, rafting and ziplining. It is all possible in this area near Bagni di Lucca.
