Brewing Up History at the Bialetti store in Lucca: The place for coffee addicts

Cultural experiences

When you think of Italy, images of delicious food, excellent wines, and of course, aromatic coffee come to mind. Italians have a special relationship with their coffee, and one iconic brand that has played a pivotal role in this coffee culture is Bialetti. Join us as we dive into the rich history of Bialetti and explore their flagship store nestled in the heart of Lucca.

Italian coffee culture wouldn't be the same without the innovation and passion of Alfonso Bialetti. Back in 1933, he invented the iconic Moka Pot, a stovetop coffee maker that quickly became a household staple in Italy and beyond.

This ingenious invention allowed people to brew espresso-style coffee right at home, and it forever changed the way Italians enjoyed their daily dose of caffeine. Bialetti's Moka Pot is not just a coffee maker; it's a symbol of Italian culture and craftsmanship.

Its distinctive design and the little man with the mustache on the logo are instantly recognizable worldwide. The Moka Pot has even earned a spot in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, a testament to its enduring style and functionality.

Nestled in its charming streets, near the anfiteatro, there is the Bialetti store, a coffee lover's paradise. As we stepped inside, we were greeted by the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee, setting the tone for an exciting exploration. The store itself is a tribute to Italian design.

The shelves are adorned with an array of Bialetti coffee makers, each a piece of art in its own right. From the classic Moka Pot to the more modern electric coffee makers, there's something for every coffee enthusiast here. One highlight of our visit was the chance to witness a live demonstration of how to make the perfect espresso using a Moka Pot.

Over the years I have build a small collection of Bialetti’s. A classical silver one, the original. A small one in “Italian baby blue” and a bigger modern one in “matt black”. Before leaving the Bialetti store, be sure to pick up a Moka Pot or some freshly roasted Italian coffee beans. It's the perfect souvenir to take home and recreate the Italian coffee experience.
